Bringing World Class Jiu Jitsu to the Central Valley: Inside Our Butterfly Guard Seminar with Adam Wardziński

A World Class Technique Meets a Local Community

On April 11th, Checkmat Exeter had the privilege of hosting world renowned jiu jitsu competitor Adam Wardziński for an unforgettable seminar focused on one of his specialty, the butterfly guard.

For many practitioners, the butterfly guard is most commonly seen in high level competition. It is a dynamic and technical position that is not always the first system everyday practitioners gravitate toward. However, as Adam demonstrated, understanding the butterfly guard, no matter your level, can open new pathways in your jiu jitsu and elevate your overall game.

From the moment attendees arrived, the energy in the room was electric. Our check in process ensured a smooth and professional start, with participants welcomed in both pre registered and day-of attendees. Once on the mat, Adam immediately set the tone. He was warm, approachable, and ready to share his knowledge.

After an introduction from academy owner Fabricio Machado, the seminar kicked off with a purposeful warm up led by Adam himself. From there, students partnered up and began diving into the details of the butterfly guard. Adam guided everyone through key concepts and multiple variations, breaking down the technique in a way that made even a competition focused position accessible and practical.

What stood out most was not just the technique. It was the experience.

Attendees expressed how much they appreciated having an athlete of Adam’s caliber here in the Central Valley. Events like this are rare, and bringing world class jiu jitsu directly to our community is something we take great pride in. Many also noted the clean, organized, and professional environment we strive to maintain at Checkmat Exeter, something we believe is essential to creating the best possible training experience.

But beyond the technique and the event itself, this seminar reflects something deeper about who we are. At Checkmat Exeter, our goal is not just to teach jiu jitsu. We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and professional academy where students of all levels can grow, not only on the mats, but in life. Jiu jitsu has the power to build confidence, discipline, and resilience, and experiences like this seminar help reinforce just how impactful that journey can be.

We are incredibly grateful to Adam Wardziński for sharing his time, knowledge, and passion with our community. And to everyone who attended, thank you for being a part of such a special day. We look forward to continuing to bring opportunities like this to the Central Valley and helping our students elevate their jiu jitsu and their lives every step of the way.
